How do I begin to tell you “about Elijah”. There really are no words that could ever draw a picture of our precious son. He is the strongest little guy that we know. He has endured more heartache and pain in his three short years than most of us can imagine. He was adopted from Russia in 2004 at the age of 18 months. We adopted him one month later domestically. It seems that he has always been with us. He stole our hearts away the moment we laid eyes on him. I say to him often, “You have my heart, little guy”.
Elijah has developmental delays caused by the choice his birth mother made to drink alcohol during her pregnancy. He has fetal alcohol syndrome. When he first came home at nineteen months of age he could not walk, talk or even chew his food. He began to walk at twenty two months. He not only walks now, but can run and jump faster and higher than any kid we know. We say that he is our little gymnast. He also is quite the little dancer. Elijah now has several words and a few phrases. He usually learns a new word each day. He has an awesome speech therapist named Miss Valorie who works with him each day. He is in preschool through our public school system and has absolutely started to flourish since he started. His teacher, Mrs. Lagrone is one of the most wonderful, loving teachers we could ever hope to have with our son. Elijah continues to progress and we believe that one day the diagnosis of fetal alcohol syndrome will be his testimony. So, if you want to know “about Elijah” just picture the most wonderful, precious, beautiful, loving, tenacious, spirited, funny, clever, intelligent, strongest little boy that you can and there he is. He is our hero!
